House Krugmann |
The project consists of a large restoration for a holiday house situated in Gansbaai in the first line of houses overlooking the seafront. The existing structure was characterized by a concrete podium sunk in the ground functioning as a large family room and single garage. The first floor was a wooden structure containing the common areas (kitchen, lounge, dinning) and bedrooms. The general concept was to keep the solid basement, creating a new family room, removing the garage (rarely used) so to get a new bedroom and rebuilding completely the first floor. The kitchen / lounge at the first floor has been enlarged and oriented so that the view of the sea was the protagonist. Two new bedrooms on-suite are also been located on the first floor and the orientation of the beds was again facing the sea view. The new house has a sloping roof with a single flap, this creates a more sun protection in the front while offering the possibility of largest windows on the opposite side. The interior spaces were designed with simple and clean lines great for an uncomplicated holiday home. |
